You inspire me to no end. Feeling my sensuality is quite scary for me, but the way you create and hold the CLOSER x-dance space taught me something ... I actually felt safe and more like myself with the permission to explore pleasure. Wow.
About CLOSER x-dance
CLOSER x-dance is a dedication to unshackling any chains that teach us to separate our inherit erotic aliveness from the rest of ourselves. It is an invitation to allow the sensual when it arises, to give permission to feelings and to creative play within the context of a free and spontaneous dance / movement journey.
This session gently tears down the boxes that equate eroticism to sex, too. For, this textured word – eroticism – combines pleasure, joy, creativity, expression. It’s taste and sounds. Imagination and movement. Eroticism gives us a powerful avenue to play with emotional tensions, relieve inner struggles to find lightness, strength in vulnerability and pleasure.
Unlike traditional dance forms, there are no specific steps to follow here. Instead, you’ll be guided by an eclectic mix of music and inspirational prompts, inviting you to tune into your body, connect with yourself and to follow intuitive movement moment by moment. There are no “right” or “wrong” ways to move here – just an open invitation to discover and express yourself.
Using the 5Rhythms framework, we will explore 5 fundamental life energies (rhythms) through the dance. The music is played like a “wave” where it goes up and comes back down again. There are 3 essential ingredients to each event:
- Freedom to be: You’re invited to let go of the thinking mind, explore physical and emotional landscapes without any pressure of performance or “getting it right”
- Invitations, not instructions: You’ll receive impulses and ideas to explore different aspects of movement and self-expression. Most importantly, you’ll be encouraged to follow what feels true for you.
- Presence: Dance becomes a meditation in motion, inviting presence directly through the body in each movement. As you feel the music and let the dance move you, your thoughts will be allowed to quiet down.
...I felt all this abundant joy and playfulness in you immediately, like it sprang directly from your heart into mine, and probably into many others, as well. Thank you for being so brave and not staying on the safe side!
For you
Perhaps you are curious about the idea of eroticism as a life force energy? Or, you want to give yourself permission to play with the qualities of sensuality, clothing and aliveness in a safe(r) space with others? Or, you really love good music and want to dance outside the club space? Or, you’re curious to discover how greater freedom could feel and move with the possibility of exploring the erotic …
This space is for all of you who are curious about the relationship between dance x movement and sensuality, pleasure x eroticism.
No previous experience required.
CLOSER x-dance is open to all, creating a safe(r) space for different horizons, sexual orientations and experiences.
Whether you are comfortable and familiar with these themes or exploring them for the first time, you are invited to join us.
What to wear
What we wear can inform how we move, how we feel or even how we think. Given the theme of CLOSER x-dance, you are particularly invited to experiment with clothing that feels erotic, sexy or sensual. Let yourself be intuitive when you’re getting ready for the evening. Some ideas …
- Does clothing that is flow-y or tight fitting give you more pleasure?
- Do you find different textures such as mesh or cotton, satin or lace or denim ignite your senses?
- Perhaps, there is some clothing that brings on special characteristics, maybe something you don’t usually wear in daily life? Maybe it’s a ballet tutu or a tie or anything else.
- Do colors or comfortable clothing give you a special feeling?
Simply allow yourself to express yourself through clothing as much or as little as you’d like.
Flow
Doors open at 19.15 and close promptly at 19.45. Please note entry after 19.45 isn’t possible.
- Welcome + Introduction: After a guided warm-up through the body, we’ll have a general welcome and introduction to the theme for the evening before we go into the dance.
- Dance + Music: Let go of any preconceived notions you might have about dance. Unlike anything you’ve experienced before, there is no choreography or special moves in this space. The music is played in a form of a wave where the rhythms will rise to a crescendo and then gently fall – and you’ll get to discover how it feels to move to those beats, moment by moment. During the dance, you’ll be guided with some words of inspiration and invitations (never instructions) to enhance your experience.
- Gathering after class: Once the official dance is over, we open the space for all who want to stay and connect. There will be snacks, opportunities for exchange and spaces for quiet reflections, too.
- No phones: To allow for greatest spontaneity, creativity and freedom of expression, no phones on the dance floor.
What to bring
- A water bottle, there is a bathroom to fill up your water bottles.
- Indoor shoes optional – most people dane barefoot.
- You are very welcome to wear different types of clothing to explore your very own erotic flavors ….

FAQ’s
Eroticism is multifaceted and combines feelings, creativity, expression. While sexuality is an instinctual urge resulting in an act (with the self or another), eroticism is born within us and our imaginations. Eroticism involves sensual and aesthetic experiences. It includes our emotional landscape and all senses.
Dance can be a wonderful way to explore the erotic pulse. Similar to all Samar Linn’s events, there are no specific ideas or constructs about how you experience these events.
Most importantly, it’s a space to be curious primarily with yourself.
You may read more about Eroticism and project Closer here.
Eroticism, in a general sense, are the micro-moments of pleasure in our daily lives. It’s the response of the skin to a cool breeze, or the way the body opens to beautiful nature. It could be the heart’s response to a piece of music or a deep, full breath to reading a poem. These small ecstasies could be the taste of food, a movement on the dance floor ….
Poet Audre Lorde wrote about the uses of erotic as power. Our erotic states are already with us when we are born – curious, innocent, explorers. This is the erotic essence, a personal pulse of aliveness.
project CLOSER investigates eroticism as a way of being that imbues our lives. That the way we walk, breathe, eat, see, talk are examples of how we can cultivate our life force energy, the erotic pulse in its broadest sense. Understanding and respecting your own personal flavors of sensuality, sexuality, imagination and desires can breathe magic into all parts of you.
The main difference between these events is an intentional invitation to explore qualities of eroticism. Although an erotic experience could well happen at a (regular) x-dance event of course, some people might feel even safer with more guided investigation on this theme. Therefore, the music, exercises and ambience will encourage this exploration. Importantly, there no specific ideas or constructs about how you experience these events or even if your experience is “erotic” to you – whatever arises is welcome. However, you are is welcome.
Similar to other events, Samar Linn offers a wide range of music genres, although tunes are more likely to play in the spectrum of mysterious, sensual, sexy, tempting … As eroticism is such a personal experience, there will be lots of experimentation for all types of pleasure.
Electronic or House. Drum’n’Bass or Funk. Hip Hop or Jazz. Classical or an occasional Pop Tune.
There may be some light touch exercises offered. However, there is no requirement for touch at any point of the dance or exercises.
You are encouraged to find your comfortable edge, and to stay connected to your own needs while respecting all others’ boundaries.
No, there will be no requirements to get naked.
However, given the theme of this event, there may be invitations to explore layers of clothing / undressing in the dance. Therefore, please be aware others might be naked around you.
You are encouraged to stay connected to your own needs while respecting all others’ boundaries.
5Rhythms brings a beautiful framework to the world to the conscious dance space. It is a practice developed by Gabrielle Roth who identified that life moves in different energies. The more we experience being in these different energies, the more prepared we are for life.
I am a certified 5Rhythms® teacher and use the 5Rhythms framework as a gentle guideline for the music I play. At x-dance, we begin the evening with a 5Rhythms Wave.
You may find a video here which provides some information about the five rhythms – Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, Stillness.
You may read more about 5Rhythms here. There is also one article available about 5Rhythmen auf Deutsch here.
Samar Linn’s music style is eclectic, edgy; an invitation to express yourself in all shades and flavors. The music is a backdrop and support as you discover, express and let go into your own spontaneous and free dance.
Our bodies are always 100% present no matter where our thoughts might be. So when we dance and bring attention to our physical bodies, we teach our minds to be present with the body in that exact moment.
Meditation is when we develop ways to bring our attention and awareness into focus. In turn, this leads to mental calm, emotional peace and a clear state.
In this way, we use the music, our bodies and dance to quieten the thoughts and build tools that we can use in daily life.
